IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) And Its Causes…

IBS seems to be caused when a number of organs interact to the extent of a disturbance arising. These organs are autonomic nervous system, interacting with the brain and the digestion system. The interaction leads to constipation when the colon moves slowly, or when fast, it can lead to diarrhea. The movement of the colon may also be spasmodic.

A professor at the University of California, Mr. Chang, argues that spastic colitis is an inaccurate name for the condition. Another incorrect term employed, according to the professor, is spastic colon. Some confusion is also made between inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowels condition. This has been discussed under the topic on similarities of IBS. However, there is no linkage between these two conditions with IBS. In addition, victims of Irritable Bowel Syndrome or I.B.S. are not at any risk of getting colon cancer.

It has, however, been expressed that Irritable Bowel Syndrome can make people strain financially and emotionally, although it does not threaten patient’s life. It is also a nuisance according to Keith Bruninga, who is based at Rush University Medical Center. He is an expert in gastroenterology at the Chicago-based institution. In addition to the IBS patients feeling hopeless, they may also have less interest in sex, feel nervous, lack energy, and they report problems related to sleeping.

According to professor Chang, neither the occurrence of the condition, nor its triggers and the period it will last can be predicted.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Now (And Don’t Even Know It?)

Women are twice more likely to be affected by this condition compared to men. The factors associated with its occurrence include historical abuse of verbal and sexual nature and stressors.  Others include existence of history of physical abuse, alcoholic parents, and divorce associated with parents.  Therefore, it appears that Irritable Bowel Syndrome (I.B.S.) is triggered by an adverse occurrence in one’s life in the past according to professor Chang. In addition, the problems associated with IBS may arise from consumption of high-fat foods.

The nerve connection between the brain and the colons make the latter susceptible to stress-related and emotional-related effects, although many are told that stress or emotional strain cannot cause the illness. It can affect people who are exposed to anxiety and stress according to Peter Galier, an expert in internal medicine.

Of course, those individuals living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome are probably familiar with the core components of the brat diet and more often than not have turned to it to settle upset normalcy, but I encourage you to seek it out if not familiar, even if only a brief bout of diarrhea or an upset stomach.

Take care of yourself,

Sandy
